With a professional background in Graphic Design, 3.5 years ago I made the pivot to focus on UX.
My current role is Senior UX Designer at Sally Europe.
Here's what I get up to day to day
Product Management
I own the UX of 10 e-commerce sites across Europe that cater to both retail shoppers and professional customers. Working with the head of customer experience, I work to set up the UX Goals in the product roadmap each financial year. I then work with stakeholders, internal and external devs and suppliers to deliver these goals for the websites.
UX Research
As part of a small UX function, we rely a lot on quantitative data. We use Google Analytics, Crazy Egg and our testing platform Monetate, to get an understanding of how our users are using our platform, and as an indicator of how and where we can improve. This analysis includes: traffic and user cohort analysis, heat mapping and user recording analysis as well as monitoring AB test performance. I also work with our marketing and stores team to capture any feedback I can from our users.
UX Design
I head up the UX process at Sally, following most projects all the way to completed design. This includes ingesting and empathising with research to get the best understanding of user’s expectations and needs, to ideating, wire framing and prototyping solutions. We follow the standard design thinking process that I implemented into the team upon joining.
UI Design
I have directed the look and feel of the UI at Sally since joining 3.5 years ago. At the time they had no consistent UI styling, component styling or design system. With my input, the UI across websites has evolved and come a long way, I made it a priority to create a clear design system for the company and worked with the senior dev to connect it to an accessible component library for devs. I still see prototyping all the way to designing UI on the projects I work on at Sally.
CRO and AB testing
AB testing plays a vital role in the small CX team at Sally, from a UX standpoint, I own the UX testing process to aid in our UX research and deliver the best designs we can to our customers as well as improving business metrics
The landscape of tools available to designers is much more diverse and varied than it has been in a long time. I make a point to always be learning and using the best tools to deliver great UX and designs. Here are some of the tools I use regularly:
I moved into UX in 2021, though a lot of my career beforehand involved UI design, graphic design, product management and even a little bit of game design.
